Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Oil Filter
  2. Air Filter
  3.  Pool Filter

Materials

1.Funnel
2.Container
3.Filter paper
4.Dirty water
5.Pebbles
6.Fine Sand
7.Cup
8.Scissors (if using a bottle for funnel and container)

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle in half and using the top as your funnel.

Step 2

Put the top half upside down in the bottom of your bottle.

STEP 3

Add layers of filter paper, sand, and rocks to your funnel. Making sure to put the sand in the filter paper that is in a cone shape.

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water.

STEP 5

Pour the dirty water into the filter you made.

Conclusion:
For our filter, it ended up not working because while we were filtering we accidentally knocked the filter over causing some of the water and pebbles to fall out. We also think it failed because we put the water in to fast causing it to fall through the sides and not go through the whole filter. After a failed attempt we got to add another piece of filter paper on top of the pebbles in a cone shape and retry. The first time the water almost didn't change, but the second time the water turned out almost like tap water with a little tint of yellow. With the second filration test the water dripped through alot slower than the first causing it to come out cleaner.
